What the Numbers Mean
The fall was broad-based across all three purities: 22-carat gold, the grade most commonly used for jewellery, slipped by ₹1,250 to ₹1,36,400, while 18-carat gold, used in lighter and studded pieces, eased by ₹1,030 to ₹1,11,600. The three rates move together because they track the same underlying metal price; the gaps between them reflect purity, not a separate market.
Before You Buy
- These are indicative city-level rates. Your jeweller’s final price will differ once making charges and GST are added.
- Ask for a BIS hallmark on every piece, which confirms the stated purity.
- Compare the day’s quoted rate with at least two jewellers before committing to a large purchase.
