Ram Charan’s “Peddi,” directed by Buchi Babu Sana, has finished 2026 so far as the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year, with a worldwide gross in the region of ₹330-337 crore, according to trade estimates. The film released on 30 April as a pan-India title and had already locked in a theatrical business of around ₹250 crore ahead of release.
A mixed year for Tollywood
Trade reports describe 2026 as a largely difficult year for Telugu cinema at the box office, with several high-budget releases, including “The Raja Saab” and “Ustaad Bhagat Singh,” falling short of expectations. Against that backdrop, Chiranjeevi’s “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu” was the other clear success story, grossing around ₹300-310 crore worldwide and becoming, according to the film’s backers, his highest-grossing release to date.
What is still to come
The year’s major releases were not confined to summer. Vijay Deverakonda’s period drama “Ranabaali,” co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, released on 11 September with a pre-release business reported at around ₹150 crore. The festival season is set to bring one of the year’s biggest clashes, with Prabhas’ big-budget “Fauzi” targeting a Dussehra-season release on 17 October against Nandamuri Balakrishna’s film with director Gopichand Malineni. Akkineni Nagarjuna’s 100th film is also expected around the same window, while Vijay Deverakonda returns once more with “Rowdy Janardhana” slated for Christmas.
Why it matters
With several major titles still to release, distributors caution that the final box-office picture for 2026 is far from settled. For now, “Peddi” holds the top spot, but the coming festive-season clashes are widely expected to reshape the year-end rankings.
